Dinner and Dialogue - April 9, 2024
One Voice Youth Coordinator Amy Torres enjoyed teaching stress reduction skills to Desmares students at a bilingual Dinner and Dialogue held at RFIS. The Desmares Dolphins put the breathwork they learned into practice while inflating beach balls decorated with coping strategies to use at home. The kids also giggled while they stretched into playful yoga movements, both individually and with a partner! Thanks to HCRHS students for volunteering their time!

Congressman Tom Kean met with One Voice staff to learn more about prevention work in Hunterdon County and discuss ways that the federal government can help keep our adolescents and young adults safe from drug and alcohol misuse.

One Voice Executive Director Lesley Gabel met with Raritan Township's Volunteer Community Emergency Response Team to discuss the dangers and threats of fentanyl, opioids impact on youth, the importance of carrying Narcan to save lives, and the fact that anyone can obtain Narcan for free from participating pharmacies in New Jersey.

One Voice staff had the opportunity to attend Capitol Hill Day in Washington DC to talk with our Congressman Tom Kean regarding the work that is being done in Hunterdon County to reduce substance misuse though our coalition, and the federal grants that support our efforts.
CADCA's National Leadership Forum
January 29- February 1, 2024 - CADCA's National Leadership Forum
One Voice staff attended CADCA's National Leadership Forum, the premiere training event for prevention professionals, community leaders, and experts to convene, share insights, and collaborate on innovative strategies to drive lasting and impactful community change, in order to reduce youth substance use.
One Voice Executive Director Lesley Gabel co-presented with Erin Cohen from Prevention Resources two sessions: Fentanyl Prevention and Medication Opioid Use Disorder.
Interfaith Luncheon
January 24, 2024 - Thank you to Rev. Michelleslie Maltese-Nehrbass, Deacon, Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Lebanon for her initiative, leadership and positive energy in helping to coordinate an Interfaith Luncheon meeting, and to Fr. Ron Pollack at St. John's Episcopal Church for hosting this event. This is the beginning of a wonderful opportunity to share ideas, projects and suggestions to unite interfaith youth in service to our communities.
Building Skills, Providing Information and Enhancing Access, Reducing Barriers
One Voice Youth Coordinator, Amy Torres, leads kids at The Salvation Army during their weekly Music and Arts Program. Amy works with the kids to bring music, movement and mindfulness to the forefront in order to reduce stress. Suhey Zetino, Project Coordinator for One Voice, jumped right into the activity as well. Thanks to Ryan, who offers a helping hand and adds to the discussion!
Pancakes with Maple the Snowman breakfast!
On Saturday December 2, One Voice members Evelyn Blas and Courtney Cromie participated with the HUNTERDON COUNTY STIGMA FREE TASK FORCE - for a wonderful PANCAKES with MAPLE the SNOWMAN breakfast! The Hunterdon County Stigma-Free Communities Initiative is a countywide program which aims to eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use disorders. We are grateful to work within this community dedicated to bringing people together to be stigma-free in order to facilitate inclusive communities and individual healing by bringing awareness, building knowledge and fostering compassion through advocacy. Look at all of the smiling faces!
Music the Bridge to the Mind Body Connection
On Friday December 1st at the Readington Reformed Church, One Voice of Hunterdon brought 'Music the Bridge to the Mind Body Connection' to members of Girl Scout troops 80266, 81052, 80014 and 80440. Alison Belli led a fun filled night with a custom playlist, yoga, movement, meditation and journaling.
